Getting the size right.

Nine diameters, measured across the outside of the rim: 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 cm (15.7 in to 47.2 in).

The sleeping well inside the bolster is roughly 20–25% smaller than the outside diameter, that raised rim is thick, and it is the whole point of a donut bed. Measure your pet curled up nose to tail and add about 15 cm (6 in) to get the outside diameter you need.

As a rough guide: 40–50 cm suits cats and toy breeds, 60–70 cm small dogs, 80–90 cm medium dogs, and 100–120 cm large breeds or two pets sharing. If your dog sleeps stretched flat rather than curled, a donut is the wrong shape. Our Reversible Plush Bed Mat suits that sleeper better.

Measure before you pick

Measure your pet curled nose to tail and add about 15 cm. Nine diameters run from 40 cm to 120 cm.

Allow for the rim

The sleeping well inside is roughly 20 to 25 percent smaller than the outside diameter. That thick raised rim is the point of a donut bed.

Wash to suit the size

A cool gentle machine cycle on the smaller diameters. From 80 cm up it is too bulky for most domestic drums, so hand wash those. Air dry only.

Care & Cleaning

How to keep it in good order, as the manufacturer states it.

Washing

The manufacturer lists it as washable with water. On the smaller diameters a cool gentle machine cycle is fine; from 80 cm up the bed is too bulky for most domestic drums, so hand wash those in a bath.

No softener

It coats long plush fibres and they never fully recover their loft.

Drying

Air dry only, and allow a full day or more for the larger sizes. A donut bed that goes back into use damp will smell within a week.

Restoring the rim

Once dry, punch and shake the bolster back into a ring. Long plush recovers if you help it.

Between washes

A rubber brush or a damp glove lifts fur off the pile faster than a lint roller.
